Bougaloo originates from a town in the southeast of berlin called Cottbus. He discovered Hip Hop, especially Rap-Music back in 1998. Together with two close friends he started his first band and also made first liveshows where he got positive feedback for his deep and thoughtful lyrics. But some things won’t last long, so just a demotape, a dj called d-touch and a talent to be supported were left from this time. He left Cottbus because of personal issues and went to cologne, where he started making beats and producing his music on his own. Two years after he came to cologne he started producing a record with shawnodese (producer). The result was a demo called “Einblick” which marked the first serious production. Due to this album he made a lot of liveshows as supporting act for bigger bands or as headliner. He got to know a lot of musicians during his time in cologne. Some of them are still close friends to him until today especially DJ Taim, a successful turntablist and teacher at the vibra dj-school, with whom he produced the second demo titled “Unterwegs”. He had a major influence on his second release. In fall 2003, he came back to Cottbus where he lived together with DJ d-touch who took over the role of taim as bougaloo’s live-DJ. With the help of “Unterwegs” he gots to know new people like Gordon of Project Mooncircle. With Gordon as a producer, frame as singer/rapper and maria as singer he founded the group Betties Blues. In addition to the connection between Gordon and the Mooncircle Project , it became a major chance for Bougaloo to get to know musicians from all over the world and to contribute own songs to two international samplers. The EP’s “Wisdom in Chains” and “Lunar Orbit” are his biggest success so far. 2005, the Betties Blues-EP „State of Catastrophe“ came out. His first two demos, produced completely on his own, were mostly melancholic and thoughtful and just supported by a few vocal guest. Compared to them, “State of Catastrophe” is a lot more electronic and had just a few songs with vocals, which gave him the space to put in all his musical influences and those of Gordon, Maria and Frame. After the contributions for Project Mooncircle and Betties Blues, it was time to release something own again. The time since he came back to Cottbus and the musical enrichment, brought along a lot of impressions that Bougaloo tried to put into his third solo-record “Synonym”. Under this aspect, the album was some kind of an expression for the experiences he made in the past two years. “Synonym” was a big step forward in a personal and a musical way. After the release, the paths of each betties blues member led in different directions and bougaloo started to spend more time in producing and following his interest in playing instruments instead of performing vocal-wise.
